Louie Simmons is a world-renowned Strength/Special Strengths coach and the founder of Westside Barbell. Westside Barbell is a living laboratory for Louie where he can undergo constant athletic experiments to push the boundaries of what is possible.
He also has 24 athletes who deadlift over 800 pounds and three who deadlift over 900lbs. Fifteen members who have a total lifting record over 2500 pounds and seven over 2600 pound total. Westside Barbell is the only gym in the world to have two over 2700 pound totals, plus five over 2800 pounds and one who has the biggest total of all time with 3005lbs.
He has also had an athlete produce a box jump of 63.5 inches which is still the current Westside Barbell gym record. All of these athletes train within Westside Barbell.
Louie has published over 300 training articles, authored eight books, and produced ten highly respected training videos. Louie Simmons is also the inventor of the Reverse Hyper® machine, Inverse Curl machine, Hip/Quad machine, Static/Dynamic developer and the Virtual Force Swing.

Powerlifting Workouts-
Ever wanted to know how a powerlifting athlete would train the Westside way? The powerlifting section of the club will provide you programming following the exact principles we have used to break multiple world records. The programming that you will receive will account for 4 days of training (max effort lower day, max effort lower day, dynamic lower effort day, and finally a dynamic upper day). The maximal effort days will provide a main movement for the day followed by accessory movements to build up weak muscle groups. The dynamic effort days will help develop bar speed using accommodating resistance and further developing the key muscle groups.
Tactical Workouts-
Westside Barbell has worked with individuals from both law enforcement and from multiple branches of the military. The Tactical program was developed based on the demands of these specialized groups. With the Tactical programming, you can expect four days of training: max effort lower day, max effort upper day, dynamic lower and dynamic upper. These workouts help increase strength and improve conditioning, based on unique demands members of the armed forces and LEOs are put under.
Back to Basics Workouts-
Have you ever wondered what Louie and the crew did when they trained in his basement or garage before monolifts and specialty bars?
This 'Back to Basics' program was written at the behest of Louie for garage gym owners or those who have access to limited equipment. This program consists of 4 days, 2 max effort and 2 dynamic days...all revolving around utilizing the bare bones essentials of a bar, a rack, and a sled.
Mixed Martial Arts Workouts-
Over the last 40 years athletes ranging from Olympic wrestlers, UFC Fighters, Pro Boxers, Jiu-Jitsu athletes and Judo competitors have trained and consulted with Westside Barbell. We have never released how they would train using our methods, until now. The MMA program has a three-day split. You will have access to a max effort lower, max effort upper and a combined dynamic upper and lower day each week. This programming takes into account the need to raise both an athlete’s strength and overall conditioning.
Olympic Lifting Workouts-
Olympic lifting is where it all began for Louie. His first sport of choice was Olympic Lifting. A large part of the Louies training information has come from olympic lifting. Within this course you will gain access to programming for 4 days a week. These workouts aim to use the Westside system to help increase all of the olympic lifts.
Crossfit Workouts-
It started with a phone call. Did you know that Crossfit founder Greg Glassman called Louie and talked over his plans of launching a new exercise community before it became the monster that it is today? With this programming, our primary objective is to increase absolute strength as well as strength endurance in the patterns most commonly executed while decreasing the risk of injury. This program includes a two-day split. Within this program, we focus on one goal for a 6-8 week block.
Rugby Workouts-
From Rugby League to Union, we have consulted (and still do) with some of the best in the world. Strength training translates universally in push/pull style contact sports. So it’s no surprise that our system is the perfect fit for optimal training of a Rugby athlete. Within this program, you will get programming four days a week, as well as a video explanations of what to expect from each block of training.
Bodybuilding Workouts-
Believe it or not, Louie’s first official Westside Barbell member was a bodybuilder named Jimmy Sitzer, (Bandbell Bar) an advocate of power-building utilizing our system. Today’s workouts are given a modern twist based on old school fundamentals. Be prepared to work hard. These workouts were designed specifically to induce muscular hypertrophy. Muscular hypertrophy involves an increase in size of skeletal muscle through growth of component cells. The workouts are set up by body part or muscular group – not by exercise. To induce the adaptation of hypertrophy, it is critical to focus on optimally loading, stimulating and fatiguing muscular groups; thus, we are not as concerned with overall movements (like in powerlifting).
Football Workouts-
Blunt force trauma at the line of scrimmage. Football is a game of not only inches, but seconds. This programming focuses on what we do with NFL and high level amateur football players to develop the strength to overpower the individual match up. Within this program, you will receive programming for 4 days a week. The workout days will be max effort lower, max effort upper, dynamic effort lower, and dynamic effort upper.
Lacrosse Workouts-
Finesse and break away speed, two traits prized by all athletes, but debatably no more than lacrosse. This program readies the hips for the change of direction, acceleration, and radical deceleration. Additionally it takes special note of shoulder girdle health all while priming the athlete for competition. This program provides workouts 4 days a week. You will have a max effort lower, max effort upper, dynamic effort lower and a dynamic effort upper workout each week.
